FINDER’S KEEPERS Synopsis and Characters
The adventures of a group of six 10 year old children who have a kid’s gang called the Super Six. The group is made up of MATTY the protagonist, MINKA, HENRY, EDDIE, FLORA and FINN. The gang meet in their clubhouse, a fabulous treehouse, in Matty’s backyard. This is where all their adventures begin.
The Characters
MATTY the protagonist,10 years old. He is bright, cheeky, loyal and caring. He lives with his MUM (typical mother who is full of reminders: eg “don’t run with lollypop sticks in your mouth”), DAD (who frequently embarrasses his children by telling Dad jokes), big brother JACOB (around 15) and little sister LYDIE (3). A loving family but not always good listeners when Matty is trying to express his ideas.
MINKA is Matty’s next-door-neighbour. She is a tomboy, sarcastic, agile and great friends with Matty since they were babies. They are known to friends and family as M & M. Minka has a big sister OPAL who is friends with Jacob. Opal and Jacob are the butt of teasing regarding their burgeoning romance, especially from their siblings and DAD.
HENRY is technically minded and very good at pulling items apart to see how they work. He is in the same class as Matty and often walks home from school with him.
EDDIE is the gang’s historian. He has an old polaroid camera which he uses to document things he considers important. These are pinned up on the board in the Treehouse. The old camera is significant as it belonged to his father who is not around now. The absent father will be explored and expanded upon in future episodes.
FLORA and FINN are twins, Matty’s neighbours on the other side. They are very in sync with each other and can communicate with few words. They have an uncanny ability to finish each other’s sentences. They both love reading and have interesting facts at their fingertips due to this. Their Mum wants them to play soccer and be more outdoorsy which they resist.
The adventure begins when Matty and Henry find a box of circuit boards on hard rubbish collection day. They bring them home to the Clubhouse where the gang tries to work out what they are for.
They are actually phone jammers which interfere with phones and other electrical equipment.
They belong to two stereotypical Baddies in black suits: DON; a short, scary looking crook who is the brains of the pair and frequently enraged by his partner BRUCE. BRUCE is very tall and easily distracted. He frequently forgets what he is supposed to be doing when a fun activity or food presents itself. He is accidentally converted during one adventure and is then torn between his new resolutions and his criminal lifestyle. This pull to the “good side” will be explored in greater depth during future episodes.
The baddies efforts to retrieve the stolen jammers and the gang’s efforts to outwit them form the basis of the pilot. The two Baddies will remain an important pair of antagonists in future episodes.
The mastermind BOSS of the two Baddies’ operations is a terrifying woman we never see, only hear.
The Super Six are frequently terrorized by THE BULLY BOYS (one of whom is a girl) a tough (in kid’s eyes) bunch of 5 slightly older primary school kids who are known for being mean and causing problems. They are the antagonists who will be ever present in the series. Their leader GUS is captured in FINDERS KEEPERS and the gangs have to join forces to defeat a common enemy. His second in command is a big boy called SHIRLEY, who is horribly embarrassed by his name and insists everyone refer to him as LEE.
MARIGOLD MARENSKY is an impossibly perfect girl in Matty’s class who he is desperate to have notice him. She appears peripherally in this adventure but will be expanded on in a future episode where Matty and the gang need to save her.

This TV pilot is an entertaining, energetic, and delightfully chaotic kids’ caper that feels both nostalgic and fresh. The script’s greatest strength is its tone: a buoyant blend of mischief, childhood imagination, and comedic villains that immediately evokes the charm of The Goonies or Spy Kids, while remaining rooted in distinctly Australian suburbia. The voiceover from Matty is strong and consistent, anchoring the action with a wry, childlike perspective. The characters are clearly drawn and varied, with the “Super Six” gang feeling like a credible and quirky ensemble that kids would love to follow over a series.
The dialogue is consistently funny and characterful, with a playful sense of rhythm that feels authentic to kids’ speech patterns without being too stylised. The antagonists – Don and Bruce – are especially well-realised, with their classic “bumbling criminal” dynamic creating excellent contrast and comic tension. The story has solid momentum, a clear set of stakes, and climatic set-pieces that are clearly executed and visually inventive. Structurally, the narrative builds well across multiple episodes, layering tension and playoff in a way that’s very satisfying.
